About the job:
As the Senior Leadership Advisor, you will lead a small team of subject matter experts across a variety of subject areas, providing expert guidance on leadership within the further education and skills sector, drawing on extensive experience and knowledge. You will develop learning strategies that address education, governance, and development policy goals, supporting positive outcomes for both leaders and governors across the system.
Your profile
  1.  Provide expert advice and recommendations on leadership and governance policy and related development matters, ensuring they are evidence-based and aligned to sector need.
  2. Play a lead role in CPD design and delivery, ensuring content across the piece and leadership and governance reflects prevailing climate and actively promote our leadership standards, engaging with the sector as required.
  3. Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including further education and skills sector institutions and leaders, expert groups, industry representatives and other charity and policy organisations. Represent the charity at external events, conferences and policy fora to promote its interest and gather insights on leadership and governance challenges. Regularly report on impact and feedback from engagement. 
  4. Manage and mentor team members. Monitor individual and team performance, setting objectives that link with the overall ETF strategy and the Vision and Aims for Education and Standards and agreeing required professional development.
  5. Lead content development and delivery for CPD programmes, ensuring alignment with leadership challenges and governance best practices.
The successful candidate will have:
  • Current/recent further education and skills leadership experience  
  • Proven policy related experience, preferably within the further education sector or related field. 
  • Strong understanding of skills development, vocational training and workforce requirements and designing and developing programmes to meet the workforce needs across further education settings 
  • Excellent research, analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to synthesise complex information, design solutions to policy challenges and make data-informed improvements 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to engage and present to diverse stakeholders across subject matter areas and settings. 
  • Good understanding of working in a membership organisation, engaging with members and volunteers, understanding their perspective and incorporating their input into policy proposals.

  • Starting Salary: £60,300 per annum to start, with service and performance related progression
  • Contract type: Full-time 
  • Location: Victoria, London 
  • Fixed Term Contract until July 2026
  • We are open to secondment/job share
